Here are just some of the ways that your gift could help our student rowers to flourish:

  • Increasing the availability of expert coaching for all crews
  • Funding essential equipment upgrades such as blades, boats and indoor rowing machines
  • Removing the barrier of travel costs for competitions outside of Cambridge
  • Making membership fees more accessible

Hughes Hall Boat Club (HHBC) has been at the heart of the College community for many years, providing students of all abilities and experience levels the opportunity to row on the iconic River Cam.

Rowing at Hughes Hall is about so much more than time spent on the water. It provides a strong community, builds resilience, and offers the chance to make lifelong memories and friendships.

Despite being modestly resourced, we are one of the most successful crews on the river. Hughes crews frequently take home the prestigious accolade of Blades in the annual Lent and May Bumps Regattas, with the 2024 May Bumps seeing the college’s best ever results with both the men’s and women’s boats achieving blades. As a college we are also consistently represented in the Boat Race, with three of the eight rowers in last year’s winning Cambridge crew coming from Hughes Hall.

At present, we lack some of the essential equipment needed for success. Our novice boat, Bladerunner, urgently needs replacing. A new eight boat will enable us to host more learn-to-row outings, which form the cornerstone of our rowing development program and are crucial to the future of the club.
